Limited opportunities to earn a living: E3 partners are improving livelihoods in Mokhotlong, an isolated rural community where most people live on less than $2 a day.
High rates of HIV infection: it was estimated by UNAIDS that the HIV prevalence rate was 18.5% in 2023 and 270,000 people were living with HIV. HIV education is key to reduce the spread of HIV and ensure people can live positively with the disease.
Improvements to people knowing their status and accessing medication: 95% of people living with HIV know their status and 89% are on antiretroviral treatment. With proper care, medication and nutritious food, those living with HIV can lead healthy, productive lives well into old age.
Importance of improving life for young people: 35% of Lesotho’s population is 14 years and younger.
Challenges for boys and girls in completing school: E3 partners are working to encourage and enable children to complete their education. There are 83,000 orphans due to AIDS (aged 0 to 17).
